Victor 39001, a 12-inch disc

A remarkable piece of Americana issued by Victor in the early 1930s. Much rarer than Vogues!

Condition: E-

I'm going to describe this rare disc in much greater detail than my other offerings--for obvious reasons. Feel free to email me with questions.

The disc is slightly "static-y," but plays very strong. A few pops, a few minor scratches, although there is one that is audible for a few revolutions at the very end of the B side. The disc looks very clean, but I emphasize that I HAVE NOT attempted to clean it other than a very light brushing--I'll leave that to the winning bidder!

There is a slight discoloration of the green background color on the A side of the disc that can be seen on the left side above the word "Music," and an even slighter one above "Air." However, the apparent discoloration below "Air" is simply light reflection from photography. The B side is very clean--what you see here is just light reflection.

It's been a while since I've sold any 78-rpm records, but please look in my selling  feedback and you'll see satisfied customers. I am a collector, not a dealer, and have purchased many discs on ebay, so I know what good packing looks like!  I will ship promptly after payment is received.  Why am I selling these records, you might ask? These are duplicates or records that are simply outside my collecting interests.

I list below my interpretation of grading, based loosely on Kurt Nauck's scale with some modifications. I rarely give a record a grade above E-, even some of the ones I have listed right now, which play extremely well. I do take into account the recording and pressing technology, i.e., I don't expect an acoustic recording to have the fidelity of an electrical recording.

  • E+ : A choice copy with no wear whatsoever. Virtually no background noise.
  • E : Excellent. Virtually no trace of groove wear with only minimal traces of use and handling.
  • E- : An above average record with a slight degree of groove wear, but not enough to seriously detract from its audio quality. Possibly a few light scuffs or scratches.
  • V++ : Slightly more superficial wear (scuffs and scratches) creating noise, but still retains above average audio quality.
  • V+ : Obviously well played, but still enjoyable. Noticeable graying in the grooves.
  • V : Very well worn, but listenable. Moderate surface noise and numerous scuffs and scratches.
  • V- : Expect surface noise to be significant. There may be some stressed grooves.
  • G : Wiped out. Played with the right equipment, however, you may still derive a certain degree of pleasure from a record in this condition.
  • P : Possibly unplayable.
