"Rare" is sometimes an overused word on ebay, but not when it comes to this first pressing of the famous "Sit on my face" Rotters 1978 punk single.
This is NOT a reissue of any kind. This is the COMPLETE original package of the REAL earliest pressing of the Rotters sought-after single with the ORIGINAL cover. Nothing is missing. It includes the original impossible-to-find blank inner sleeve AND the record itself, which is in great shape. (Unlike other record sellers, we gave this rarity a spin, and both sides play almost like new. No overt scratches or pops and certainly no skips.)
Record is by The Rotters: "Sit on my Face Stevie Nicks" on side 1; side 2 = "Amputee." Record label is Rotten. Product number is TR-002. Music style is punk or new wave.
According to the Rotters web site, there are two distinct original 45s and covers of this ditty, which was a major hit on L.A. new-wave radio station KROQ until Mick Fleetwood called and asked them to stop playing it.
Band member Phester Swollen (who also wrote "Sit") explains differences between the two versions:
"The first Rotters 7 inch had at least two distinct pressings. The first pressing says "BANNED" only, while the second pressing says 'BANNED IN L.A.' .... Either (one is) practically impossible to find."If anyone should know how rare the first pressing is, it's the band members themselves!
Condition
I am not a professional record seller, but I would rate the vinyl itself as almost new in sound quality, an easy VG, maybe even near mint. There are some slight crackles when playing but they are also on the flip side, which I would guess was never played. So I assume that issue was from the less-than-stellar original pressing.
As for the record sleeve: There is some yellowing and discoloration, which is to be expected as this was printed on cheap garbage-grade paper back in the day, as ALL punk singles were supposed to be. I'll give the cover a good plus.
There are small hardly noticeable thumb rips front and back where someone pressed too hard on the flimsy covers. They have been stabilized on the INSIDE of the cover with archival tape so they won't get any bigger. And the tape itself is absolutely invisible because it;s on the inside. The front rip is easily missed (see photos).
Once again, do not get confused by the various versions of this classic being offered on various sites and on ebay. There is one -- and one only -- ORIGINAL first pressing with cover .... And this is it!
