WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Verve Records very first “Panoramic True High Fidelity” Mono press released by Verve Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1957 by Goluboff Industrias Fonográficas S.A. (Goluboff Records), licensed from Verve Records, Inc., USA, catalog number MGV-8109, with machine etched matrix numbers MGC-730A A MGV-8109A H in Side 1 and MGC-730B A MGV-8109B H in Side 2, with traditional maroon/silver Verve Records labels of the period, with big Verve Records logo at top. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Trumpet Battle”, the legendary album by Jazz trumpeters Roy Elridge and Dizzie Gilliespie, was recorded in a session supervised by Norman Granz on October 29 of 1954, in New York, and released in USA in 1956 by Cleff Records and then re-released as part of the Cleff Series of Verve Records (from the same session a second album, “The Trumpet Kings”, was also released in 1956) in 1957 and the same year, 1957, we could see this great and historical Jazz album released here in Chile and, as usual in that period, we got it with a UNIQUE COVER, made of a single piece of hard cardboard folded in the middle, with sheets of paper fully attached to the cardboard, but with flaps of back cover pasted on the cardboard of front cover and then the sheet of paper of front cover pasted on the cardboard and over the flaps of back cover. Front and back covers keep strictly the original US artwork and design, with album and song titles, and liner notes, written in English only, the only difference is the Goluboff Records logo and recommendations to take care and clean this LP at the bottom edge of back cover. In labels, the album title is omitted and tracklist is written in English only, with full credits for songwriters, with additional information about publishers of each song and rights society, licenses and tax law applicable in Chile, with cash price, “$3.800.-”, printed in Side 1, which proves this record was released in Chile early 1957. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS of this classic Jazz album by Roy Elridge and Dizzie Gillespie, with accompaniment of Oscar Peterson (piano), Herb Ellis (guitar) Louis Bellson (drums) and Ray Brown (bass), a record rarely seen, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Jazz and Bop music and especially for all fans, lovers and collectors of Roy Elridge, Dizzie Gillespie, Oscar Peterson and all other musician already informed who play in this record!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great VG or even VG+ condition, clear and clean, with evident wear in all edges, more evident in corners and in spine, which’s still solid but with incipient seam splits that can be seen, with evident age browning and many faint stains and blemishes, with some creases and faint ring marks in back cover. The record is in nice VG+ or EX- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with some soft scuffs and light hairlines, mostly hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great EX or even EX+ condition, clean and clear, with only some minimal spindle hole wear and faint factory discoloration, more evident in Side A. The sound is in strong EX- or even EX condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant soft crackles and occasional light clicks here and there, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER, for sure not for strict Minty minds or audiophiles, but with still a nice complete and clean cover, and with the record with very nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and great sound quality after about 67 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean record!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
