An original 1964 UNBOXED DECCA  GENUINE 1st Press. Which in itself is quite impressive....let's be frank. But what takes this copy right up there into 'unusual territory' is TWO other very enticing facts. Firstly, condition for the cover is really rather good and the condition for the record is absolutely FABBO. But if snagging a superb playing 1st press just isn't quite enough....what about a 1st stamper copy? Because this badboy has it ALL. Tremendous preservation [like nothing I've seen before] and the stampers are 1B/1BB. So, for the 1A/3A matrix this is using the 1st stamper on one side and arguably ditto side two. I can't say for sure whether the double BB is just where the stamper has bounced and duplicated the B. Either way you're not going to ever get nearer the original master than this. And you will never find a better playing copy - I can quite happily GUARANTEE that. The original copies came out with a whole host of errors. E.g errors in the publishing...Bozier instead of Dozier etc..and track name errors..."You can make it you try"!.. But the most obvious and interesting one is always the Bo Diddley track which on very 1st copies is still referred to as MONA. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with the very earliest errors on. The track MONA is still mentioned (incorrectly). Original Decca inner. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete. Most likely sold in the 1st week of release. Just think about that for a second...and then think about how good it looks....and how well it plays...let that sink in...
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In truly great condition and has only seen light use [given the title and the vintage I could actually rave a lot more about this!]. There's a few very slight marks per side, a couple of trail trace marks....nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly Excellent+ level of playback with one slight deviation per side. So, I wanna just start by qualifying this grading...I would never in a month of Sundays dream of grading a 1st issue '64 Stones record at the Ex+ rating. First and foremost I would NEVER expect to find one. I think, given the title, and the vintage...I just think the probabilities are massively stacked against finding one. But then you get something like this drop out of the ether...you play it...and listen...and it is like DOUBLE WOW...how on earth is this possible? Intros and inbetweens are really really nice and clean and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Let's say you're a BIG Stones fan and you wanna hold out for a truly marvellous 1st press. Well, you could try and find a 'Short version' Tell Me copy [which this isn't by the way!] - yes you could. But you would be spending big big $$$ and it would NEVER EVER play like this copy. This copy is like you've walked into the studio in '64 and plugged a direct feed into the main desk. YOU ARE THERE. Because the copy is so close onto the masters and faithfully reproduced by a super Decca pressing. BECAUSE someone has looked after this copy down many years without a)overplaying and b)playing it on decent equipment. What you are going to hear is the REAL DEAL. What everyone wants...A near perfect reproduction of that original Mono mix. Full of the early Stones energy and vibrancy. Perfectly clean background and you can hear deep into the back mix. It is an absolute cracker from every single angle. I don't think I've ever witnessed No. 1 like this....on ANY copy. It is straight in at NO.1...for No.1! ONLY one slight and isolated tick per side [seriously THAT WAS IT!]. You will get clean clean feed - exactly what the time frame should have conspired against. You will get clean feed down into the quiet moments and hear/witness every last nuance. Tell Me is just perfect...and i have never heard it like that. It is a KEEPER copy and I would defy anyone to better it. You will need to keep it...look after it....and treasure it. FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Vg/Vg+) The front is in really smart condition. Rarely do you see the debut without laminate lift and creasing...very rarely! Some ageing top left edge on front, and a bit along the opening edge. The only issue is some tanning/ageing in places to the rear [e.g. right hand side] - which is difficult to avoid entirely on this title. Not all that much sign of edge wear and firm opening. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Spine is 99% intact with light ageing. Still retains very good rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. no splits. Bag present. Some writing.
