Description
Bill & Belle Reed, Old Lady and the Devil/You Shall Be Free (Columbia 15336-D) (1928).
Recorded at Columbia Records' first location-recording session in Johnson City, TN, in October 1928, this disc—the only one by the duo—has become celebrated because of the inclusion of Old Lady and the Devil in Harry Smith's ground-breaking 1952 Folkways compilation, the Anthology of American Folk Music.
(You Shall Be Free, however, was not included in the more recent Dust-to-Digital compilation of "Harry Smith's B-sides" because of language unacceptable to the producers.) Visually E. A couple of tiny scrapes on the labels. Altogether a highly desirable copy.
