Over the next few months i will be selling on here a superb selection of rare Soul, Jazz, Funk and Latin LP's, acquired from a serious enthusiast who is trimming his collection down! Info: US mono issue LP, and a very rare original pressing with dark purple/violet and silver deep groove labels.
Pressed on heavy thick vinyl with 'VAN GELDER' stamped in the run-off grooves.
Comes in original textured card paste-on picture sleeve with 'Bergenfield' address on rear, and has plain paper inner sleeve.
Soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy continued his early exploration of Thelonious Monk's compositions on this 1961 Prestige date, Evidence. Lacy worked extensively with Monk, absorbing the pianist's intricate music and adding his individualist soprano saxophone mark to it. On this date, he employs the equally impressive Don Cherry on trumpet, who was playing with the Ornette Coleman quartet at the time, drummer Billy Higgins, who played with both Coleman and Monk, and bassist Carl Brown. Cherry proved capable of playing outside the jagged lines he formulated with Coleman, being just as complimentary and exciting in Monk's arena with Lacy. Out of the six tracks, four are Monk's compositions while the remaining are lesser known Ellington numbers.

Vinyl on side 1 in excellent condition with just light scuffs and plays great! Side 2 is pretty much the same but has a light scratch in the middle of the second track, although this only causes an occasional slight tick during the second half of the track, and otherwise the side plays excellent. So i would grade side 2 as very good+ overall.
Labels are clean and tidy with an average amount of small spindle marks.
Sleeve in very good+ condition. Looks generally tidy but has splits in the title spine and a small split in the middle of the top spine. Surfaces are pretty clean with no writing or sticker marks, and just a small amount of light storage rub-wear. Only slight scuffs on corners. Not bad at all!
