Description
Classic debut album from one of the enduring lights of the British blues boom of the Sixties - and a great opportunity to pick up a UK 1st press mono copy at a fraction of the current book value.
This copy of Savoy Brown Blues Band's 1967 debut on Decca - and remember this is a red label, unboxed, A1/A1 matrix UK 1st pressing - delivers a storming slice of electric blues mostly consisting of great versions of established blues standards by the likes of Willie Dixon, BB King and John Lee Hooker.
The reason this is starting so cheaply - when others are listed at three figure sums - is simple: condition.
The sleeve is well worn with a flattened spine, plenty of creasing, stains and grubbiness to the back cover, and lettering next to each of the track listings (these actually might be of use to blues musicians, as I think they are the keys the songs are played in!). Grades Good +, maybe VG-.
The vinyl has marks, hairlines and some scratches. It plays with surface noise, pops, tics and one skip (on track 1 side 1), though it has to be said that most of the time the music eclipses the crackle. So Fair to Good, grading conservatively.
The labels are largely excellent, and there is an original Decca inner sleeve included.
So to summarise: if you're an audiophile and have deep pockets, look away now. You'll find better copies and you'll have to be prepared to pay the money for them. If you're a blues fan and want to add this to your collection as a playing copy, to be upgraded when cash and opportunity arises, pop a bid in. You may just pick up this classic slice of 60s British blues at a bargain price.
