Description
The Beatles - Please Please Me on the collectable Black & Gold parlaphone label. Please see the pictures, but you'll see the 1N matrix numbers, Dick James credit etc.
As a collector, you will know everything about this increasingly rare and sought after record, so I will move on to condition.
Firstly, I have play tested the entire album on a Project 9.1 set up with an AT440MLa cart as this is very revealing. I think I would grade the record as VG and it plays better than it looks! There is obvious background noise between tracks and in very quiet passages, but nothing I found to be obtrusive to the music. There are the odd pops and clicks and there is an audible tick in Chains. To look at it, there are numerous surface marks though, luckily, few are anything more than that. Under any kind of bright light, it doesn't look pretty and I have tried to show this in the pictures. As I said - it sounds petter than it looks!
The Cover is intact with the front in pretty good condition - no ring marks, fairly clean, laminate in a pretty good state, just a slight nick to the bottom right corner. Spine is straight and readable. Corners are intact but a bit worn. The back is where it goes a bit wrong - the bottom has split along the top bit of the fold back sleeve about 3/4 of the way along. It's a shame and I don't know how much better it could've made to look. Otherwise, the cover is a lot better than some I have seen!
So, all in all, not a bad, playable copy of an appreciating classic. I have described its defects as best I can, and the opening bid price reflects everything above.
