BOB DYLAN. THE FREEWHEELIN' BOB DYLAN. VERY RARE GENUINE 1st UK STEREO PRESSING WITH PHILIPS PRESSING PLANT MATRIX (SBPG 62193 1Y1//420 1 - SEE FINAL PHOTO). MATT TEXTURED ORANGE CBS LABELS. FLIPBACK COVER.
My listening equipment is a highly revealing Yamaha PF-800 turntable (easily equal to an LP12), pre/power amps and B&W Matrix Reference speakers. Before listing I always clean LPs on a vacuum record cleaning machine and I always determine audio quality by playing the LP not just by visual inspection. For this LP I have used an Ortofon OM10 MM cartridge.
When this stereo record was first released, CBS did not have its own UK pressing plant so it was pressed in a British Philips plant, hence the 420 Philips Matrix. Only UK records with this Matrix are true 1st stereo pressings (A1/B1 matrices came later).
Played on my system this LP grades Very Good. Side one plays without any issue. Side two has a click to the vocals at the beginning of the first track. A couple of the tracks on this side display some distortion to the vocals on the right channel: track 3 “Oxford Town” has a little on a couple of vocal peaks, but the distortion on the final track “I Shall Be Free” is more obvious and sustained. Even so, it’s still a very good listening experience overall. The flipback cover is in very good condition with just some minor thumbnail creases to the laminate and a little lifting of the laminate to the top flipback (see photo) which you could probably stick down. There is a Retailer sticker to the bottom of the back cover. Not shown, the record has a 1960s Emitex inner sleeve in very good condition (as this is Philips pressing, the sleeve could well be original to the record).
The record will be well packaged for safe transit - I used to sell a lot of records on ebay so I have a good packaging procedure.

On further listening the sibilance described above is actually distortion. Still a very pleasurable overall listening experience, but VG rather than excellent.
