MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original EMI Odeon Records very first Mono press released, made and distributed in Chile in 1969 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), licensed from Dunhill Records, U.S.A., through Stateside Records, England, catalog number DSS-13031, with hand etched matrix numbers 45-01299 1 in Side A and 45-01300 1 in Side B, with traditional white/red/black EMI Odeon Records labels of the period and push-out center. It’s very interesting to notice the 1/1 stampers!!! Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“The River Is Wide” by The Grassroots was originally released in March 1969 in USA and in May 1969 in UK and the same year we could see this single released here in Chile. Song titles are written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters, for Steve Barri as producer and for Jimmie Haskell as string and horns arranger, with additional information about licenses and play time of each song. If you know this band and if you have seen the labels you will have already noticed the amazing error this Chilean press has, the name of the band, The Grassroots, is misspelled “The GLASSROOTS”!!! So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this single by The Grassroots, another record from Chile almost never seen and now auctioned here in eBay by the very first time, with Spanish-written song titles and UNIQUE ERROR “The GLASSROOTS” for all fans, lovers and collectors of the band and Psych/Pop of the ‘60’s. WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! NEVER SEEN BEFORE!!!

This record doesn’t have a cover. The record is in VG+ or EX- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many light scuffs, hairlines and some soft scratches, hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great NM or NM+ condition both sides, clean and clear, with not even spindle hole wear, only a faint age browning. The sound is in strong EX+ or even NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with only minimal occasional soft crackles here and there, barely audible, more “evident” in the last seconds of each song, which of course don’t cause any distraction from the loud and clear sound this single keep from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record with still a nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and with still a superb sound quality after about 53 years, which won’t disappoint anyone and will satisfy any serious collector who knows the level of rarity this record has!!! And keep in mind the Spanish-written song titles and the AMAZING UNIQUE ERROR “The GLASSROOTS”, a record NEVER SEEN BEFORE and now by the very first time auctioned here in eBay!!! We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.
