The Sisters of Mercy have been around since 1980. Almost FORTY FIVE years! They helped create a goth rock movement, even though founder and leader Andrew Eldritch always said he hated being called goth. Kind of like Seattle rock bands hated being called grunge...but it's been Eldritch on every Sisters album, and is still there to this very day. Andrew Eldritch pretty much IS the Sisters of Mercy!

They released a couple of albums in the 80s, and their third and last studio album in 1990. Fans still love the band, and they can still perform shows and sell out the venues! The second studio album sold the most copies, and made the biggest impact. That album is titled 'Floodland', and Patricia Morrison from the Gun Club and The Damned is featured as the 'face' of the Sisters of Mercy, along with Eldritch, for this album. Meatloaf 'Bat Out of Hell' producer Jim Steinman produces two tracks on this album: "Dominion/Mother Russia" and "This Corrosion". With that big, loud, epic, and bombastic style! And they're really great songs...

Today we take a look at classic Sisters of Mercy 12" singles (or maxi-singles), each from the 80s or early 90s. These are, of course, no longer being made. And individually, these can go for big bucks. But here you'll get all three, and for a reasonable price! First up is the 12" for the 'Floodland' track "Lucretia My Reflection'. Backed with "Long Train", and the 1984 mix. That one is a bit strange. It gets a little quirky, like Bauhaus meets Kraftwerk. Seems to be a previously unreleased track. "Lucretia" is the almost TEN minute long mix here (it's only almost five minutes long on the album).

Next up is the 12" for the song "Dominion". They leave off "Mother Russia" here, for some reason, and it's now a little less than five minutes long. They add three extra tracks, and only "Emma" has appeared on the 2006 reissue of 'Floodland'. I can't find the other two tracks anywhere else! Great artwork on this one, like the "Lucretia" 12".

Last, we feature a track from the 'Vision Thing' album that came out in '90. That track is titled "Dr Jeep", and is actually a really good song. It's backed with a live bootleg recording of a classic song that the Sisters have performed live in concert through the years. Fans of classic rock will recognize "Knocking on Heaven's Door" from the original Bob Dylan version, as well as the Guns N' Roses version! (Obscure Australian metal band Heaven also did a remake of this.)

All three vinyl records looks fantastic, and are shiny and clean! I'm trying to find marks of any kind, but I don't see anything. The two older jackets actually look better than the one for "Dr. Jeep", but any wear is minor. A sweet goth rock (oops! Sorry Andrew. I know you hate that word...) triple shot of 12" vinyl maxi-singles, with several unreleased tracks, and a couple of remixes, too. Andrew Eldritch and company will head to your place, so light some candles, fire up the fog machine, and get ready to rock!
