Description

An original 1st press of AR on the UK Apple label from 1969. Matrix 2/1 - 1st cut. The TRUE 1st pressing is easily identifiable by the absence of 'HER MAJESTY' after 'The End' on side 2. Worth holding out for a true 1st - they were pressed heavy and the audio is to die for. The vinyl comes housed in an original cover printed by Garrod with the super slim spine. We also have a genuine black Apple inner sleeve with the correct die-cut circle and exposed flip-backs. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) Wowzers - don't you just wish they'd all turn up looking like this copy. Mirror like surfaces and labels which clearly allude to only very light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of minor deviations per side. Any copy of AR operating up and around the Ex grading is certainly going to impress. There was some very lush audio laid down on these early copies. What you need is a sufficiently well preserved copy that most of it is still left largely intact. And this example does precisely that. By and large a lovely clean player - which is critical for this release. When on form this copy knocks the ball outta-the-park. Gotta love it. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. So, anything detrimental? Well, I picked out a couple of clicks midway through 'Octopus'. Brief and fairly innocuous. There's some light static observable during 'Maxwell's Hammer' & during 'SUN KING', and the quieter moments of 'Golden Slumber'. But to be honest it is almost impossible to eliminate entirely on these fussiest of tracks. They still play much better, here, than what you tend to find on most that surface. So, that ALL backs up my theory this copy has only seen relatively light use. Overall this copy comes highly recommended. You'd really struggle to equal the audio on offer here - let alone exceed it.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) Quite frankly a bit of a stunner. Very rarely do you see AR looking this plush and well cared for. The front is almost perfect barring just the slightest record impression - really very very nice indeed. The rear would be classed as stone cold mint were it not for tiny impressions [very very minor]. There's pretty much no observable edge wear at all and the openings are still sharp. The spine is 100% perfect. Even the corners are not subject to bumps - they are still nice and pointy [this is very unusual]. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Truly a lovely looking specimen.
Inner (Ex) Truly exceptional. At first glance I thought it was a replica! But, no, this baby is the REAL DEAL. Correct die-cut circle. Exposed flipbacks and correct paper from the period. Very little wear at all. No splits. A bit of a one-off.
