Description

An original 4th Mono press of PPM on UK Parlophone from spring 1963. Matrix 1N/1N. 'Sold In The UK...' is ABSENT and 'recording 1st pub' is PRESENT = 4th Press. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original mono **Black & Gold** cover. Note how the Angus McBean credit in the bottom right corner starts immediately after the 'S' of 'Songs'. These covers usually housed the very earliest 'Black & Gold' super collectable copies from March. Some of the initial printing batch overlapped and can occasionally be found with a later 4th press. We also have an original Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-) Ok, so first things first - please be aware that side 2 exhibits a lot of bag-rash [sweating] marks and there's some light scuffing marks on side 1 too. Take a look at the photos - you can clearly see it. Now, some folks are not gonna like that. You know who you are! This copy is going to appeal to someone who doesn't want to spend a fortune, but wants an early copy which plays well. And, despite said markings - this copy plays very well. Remember, back in '63 EMI pressed super heavy and light markings at the surface level won't actually cause too much issue. In fact, I am saying it plays a steady NEAR EXCELLENT throughout. And, remember, there are plenty of fussy tracks toward the end of side 2 which often play with background. This copy is acing it across the board. A few crackles in one spot per side - which, I'd argue, is pretty darn impressive. JUST REMEMBER - visually side 2 is not great to look at. THIS is the COMPROMISE. But if you can live with the visual aspect - the audio will more than make up for it.
Cover (G+) Ok, it's the original 1st issue *GOLD COVER*. Would I be listing it without it being a proper 1st - possibly not. I wouldn't normally be dipping down to a (G) grading - but at the end of the day it is a SOLID cover and it is the GOLD 1st. Relatively clean front - the main issue is stress creasing at the edges. The rear seems to have avoided the worst of the ageing process. However, someone's been very active with Sellotape over the years. There is quite a bit of left-over tape residue at the edges. I've tidied it up as best I can. The flipbacks, whilst worn, are still holding up just fine. Text on the spine is 90% intact with stress creases. Overall the cover still retains every good rigidity. Please note:- name written top left corner.
Inner (Vg) Bag present. No splits. Some writing.
