AN ORIGINAL 1967 BEATLES UK MONO LP IN RARE PROTOTYPE **FOURTH PROOF** GATEFOLD SLEEVE.

This very rare unique sleeve! The “Fourth Proof” sleeve represents the earliest possible pressing of the Sgt Pepper sleeve. The ‘Fourth Proof’ was the final version of the various ‘prototypes’ that were explored by the Beatles when the cover was being designed. The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small ‘test’ run was undertaken to make sure everything looked OK. This small test run is characterised by the inverted “Fourth Proof” text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold – just above George Harrison’s head. This is therefore the earliest possible ‘prototype’ (test pressing) cover. The same flip-back has the printed text “AR D1321 which was probably the reference number for this prototype sleeve.

Released by Parlophone UK on the 1st June 1967, this original UK mono vinyl LP is on the traditional Black & Yellow Parlophone Label, with Gramophone Co Ltd label rim, With Sold in the UK…., and Made in Gt. Britain label text.

Both record labels are in clean Excellent condition, undamaged record labels showing a few signs of play to each spindle hole.

The official Side 1 Matrix: XEX 637-1, Side 2 Matrix: XEX 638-1.
Side 1 stampers 2 ADO and Side 2 stampers: 3 RHM.
The embossed KT tax/price code is visible to the Side 2 record label.

Both sides of the vinyl disc are in very nice Excellent Minus condition, bright and clean vinyl surfaces to both sides, with a few light surface hairline scratches.

Audio Quality: The LP plays well throughout with light background crackle.

The Vinyl LP comes in its original Flame Pink and White inner bag printed ‘Made in Gt Britain Patents Applied For’ to the bottom right hand corner. The flame inner is a nice example, with no seam splits, handwriting or tearing, and just some inevitable light creasing and age discoloration. And also includes an unused Sgt Pepper Cut-Out.

And is protected in its original FOURTH PROOF Laminated Garrod & Lofthouse Internal Flip back gatefold Sleeve.

The Original First Issue Fourth Proof, Garrod & Lofthouse Gatefold sleeve is a respectable example in overall Very Good Plus condition. The front and reverse panels show a few laminate pinches, mild record indentation, and indentation of a removed name on the top right front corner. The inside of the Gatefold Sleeve is in Excellent condition. Clean and undamaged, - both flip backs are in undamaged, and the print ‘Fourth Proof’ and number ‘AR D1321’ clearly legible.

The spine edge shows rub marks on the wording 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.
