Description

An original 1 Emi Box copy of Sgt Pepper on the UK Parlophone label from 1969. Matrix 1/1. Stampers 1-GHT/2-GHT. Please note label is consistent with a late-1969 copy and only exhibits one Emi Box at the southern end of the label. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold cover with flipbacks exposed. The covers with the exposed flipbacks and the colour from the front and rear creeping over at the top are know to be the 1st batch of the '69 one box copies. Also included is the cut-out sheet and a late 60's original patent applied for inner sleeve. Please note that a Beatles fan has taken an original 60's comic/magazine cut-out of Ringo having breakfast and added it to the front of the inner sleeve. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In great condition and has only seen light use. It's well worth considering these '69 copies because a well preserved copy, like this one, plays just as good as the first copies from two years earlier. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - nothing troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Lovely clean audio and this example does a terrific job of unveiling the masterpiece that is PEPPER! Interference is extremely minor and infrequent. All I could detect were a few crackles in a couple of spots per side [e.g. Leaving Home & WI64], and a couple of super-light ticks right at the outset of the intro on side 1. Basically, very very little at all. It would be very difficult finding an original 1st playing this clean. For those looking for a really impressive rendition..do give this copy serious consideration.
Cover (Ex) In really great shape and has survived 50 years in very rude health! Lovely clean front with only a couple of thumbnail creases. Worth noting that those bold vivid colours are still looking great and don't seem to have faded at all. The rear looks great too with one thumbnail crease and a couple of tiny laminate bubbles. The interior is pretty much faultless..very impressive. Edge wear is very light for this title and the openings are still sharpish. The spine looks great with just the usual fold you tend to find down the middle and all text perfectly legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and looks a marvellous specimen.
Cut-outs (Ex+) Crisp..and in perfect condition.
Inner (Ex-) I appreciate that some folk might not be all that keen on the addition of photo, but I actually quite like it! Most photos of the Beatles are often a bit formal and a bit staged. A couple of age spots, but otherwise in very nice condition with no splits.
