Description
An original 1st pressing of the White Album on the UK Apple label from 1968. Matrix 1/1/1/1. Please note all labels hold the 'subject to resale in the UK' statement and none hold the EMI statement - this is indicative of the very very 1st iteration of the White Album. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original top-loading gatefold cover printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. This copy is numbered "0030604" - not super early, but getting there! What is also nice, here, is that this copy is relatively low numbered, mono, and complete. That is kind of "as good as it gets"...We have all four original high quality photos. We have one original lyric sheet. And two original black inner sleeves. And to top it all this copy is preserved to a very high standard...which is by no means an easy feat.
Vinyl [Ex+/Ex-/Ex+/Ex] In very nice condition and it really is a treat to see one of these early copies in such fine form. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks on each side - nothing troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback for the most part. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity and minimal interference. The mono on these early copies just delivers in every way and keeps on delivering! Audio reproduction is really nice with perfect tonal balance and bags of detail. Interference is only vaguely noticeable in a couple of sections on side 2 and then only very occasionally for the remainder. And even this is just a touch of light static - nothing remotely invasive. [Please note there are a few light ticks midway in "no.9" amongst all that hullabaloo - not that noticeable at all]. Definitely the best White Album rendition I've experienced - I'd like to believe that there are plenty more out there, but I think these are getting harder and harder to find in top condition.
Cover (Vg+) In great condition and, again, very very nice holding one from around the 30,000 mark. Please note the cover is exhibiting a bit of ageing now - but this is almost inevitable on these early white covers. What makes this copy standout is the integrity of the cover. There's no writing marks, tears, or bends. It retains all of its original rigidity. Edge wear is reasonably light. And, again, I don't think it's all that easy to find these early examples in this condition.
Photos (Ex+) The quality on these original photo is superb. Proper photo quality paper. Contrast and detail in the shots - superb. No deterioration to the rear either.
Lyric Sheet (Ex) This often ends up a bit aged or with splits. There are no splits on this example and the paper hasn't aged either. It most certainly has never seen a wall.
Black Inners (Vg+) Amazingly there are no side splits. Just a bit of scuffing and small tears around the centre hole.
