Description
Over the last 40 years I've had dozens of first U.S. Mono pressings of this album . None have had the truly impressive vintage "feel" of this one. Something during the mixing, cutting, and pressing was done right. Though the condition of this record is not the ideal grade we'd all like....it STILL delivers the punch, resonance, balance, and vibe we're all looking for from this timeless album. These particular 1st Mono Monarch pressings are getting harder and harder to find. And I promise you...if you are properly set up with a decent system and your turntable is well calibrated you will be very impressed. Yes, you will hear some ticks and light pops...but the natural, analog, organic, and dynamic audio will leave that all behind.
Cover: Good+.....yes there is wear all around...but this is the actual cover that came with this record. No switches here. The colors are quite unique to this issue. So is the texture and quality of the cardstock. All things considered this is still a presentable cover.
Original Elektra Records Inner-Sleeve: VG-....the matt-textured paper for this inner is slightly thicker than on later examples. Seam splits on 3 sides. A better quality inner will be included.
Record: Good to VG(minus)....the vinyl is thick and heavy.....under strong lights one can see several marks, scuffs, and hairlines. No skips or sticking during playback...but you will hear some ticks and light pops on occasion. There are a couple of songs that grade slightly higher ('Break On Through' and 'Light My Fire') in the VG ~ VG+ range. While spinning the record .... a slight warp is noticed...but it does not effect the audio in any way. Both labels are quite clean and have a wonderful look to them. As mentioned previously, this record is not in Near Mint condition ($1,000.00 + if it were) but because of the iconic status that is attached to this album one has to listen and appreciate it in a different way. I trust Doors fans and audiophiles take my meaning.
