Ron Grainger’s master piece that waited decades to be released on Film Score Monthly CD and two more decades for it’s first vinyl outing…….And what a lovely presentation in ultra thick die cut fold out cover!
Number 708 in a 1000 run by Silva Screen to mark Record Store Day 2018. Released by Silva Screen who have a reputation for quality pressings and in my opinion set the standard on quality control. The gatefold is nice very thick laminated card and is very robust so no standard has been reduced.
The original tapes at Warner Brothers were discovered in pristine condition and the recording well above the average for 70’s soundtracks where recordings were often rushed through with little thought of future record sales. FSM had issued a CD with the two sound channels discovered and they quickly sold out of their 3000 limit. Later a third channel tape was found containing the isolated track for the two giant organs that Ron utilised on the scoring stage, and he put them to good use. A second issue of the soundtrack CD with the extra material was released again by FSM in an unlimited edition….and what a difference……listen to track 4 ‘’Needling Neville’’, and track 6 ‘’On the Tumbrill’’. The early synthesizers really shine and some of the effects produced just make this a constantly replayed album. And this new remastering is what you get on the double LP here. You also get the full soundtrack.

Well done Silva Screen for getting this neglected Soundtrack the vinyl release it always deserved. the recording quality belies it's age with a score vastly neglected but way ahead of it's time
