This handsome LP from Amadeo (AVRS 12007 St, Austrian pressing, white label, stereo) features Jan Tomasow’s vibrant rendition of Vivaldi’s 'The Four Seasons' Op. 8 Nos. 1-4, from 'The Trial of Harmony and Invention', recorded with conductor Antonio Janigro and the brilliant I Solisti di Zagreb in June 1957 and sounding absolutely splendid here.
Originally recorded and distributed by Vanguard (GBS-5001), this performance was among the finest of the early LP era. Incidentally, on harpsichord is the wondeful Anton Heiller.
The striking cover art reproduces a detail from Adrian van der Venne’s “The Four Seasons”. There are fine liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German only.
The lovely cover art reproduces a detail from Giuseppe Arcimbaldo's "Autumn". The album design was executed by Helmut Laimer. There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Richard Rickett, provided in English and German.
Those unfamiliar with Amadeo pressings would do well to investigate them. Theirs was a rich catalog encompassing original recordings and licenses from other labels, including – as was the case here – from the American Vanguard label. Yet, Amadeo issues boasted their own artwork and early releases were pressed on thick flat vinyl, with glossy, fully laminated jackets. They are superb albums in every way.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is minor creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a truly excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
