This album has become a cult classic among rare groove vinyl diggers – a dense, heavy, psyched out breaks set from a short-lived side project put together by famed UK library and film music composer Alan Parker (KPM, Music De Wolfe).
Ugly Custard recorded in 1971 reunited Parker with leading session players and fellow members of the band Blue Mink including Herbie Flowers (bass) and Roger Coulam (organ) alongside legendary drummer Clem Cattini (The Tornados, T-Rex, Hot Chocolate).
The album features Parker re-arranging known standards into open, wigged out small group jams including Paul Simon’s ‘Scarboro’ Fair’ and Stephen Stills’ ‘Hung Upside Down’.
Side 2 focuses on original Parker compositions including the sitar-drenched freak out ‘Cry From The Heart’ and a Library styled Parker and The Mohawks’ main man Alan Hawkshaw original ‘Custard’s Last Stand’.
UGLY CUSTARD is pressed on heavyweight vinyl and was originally issued on Kaleidoscope (KAL 100) in 1971 and now includes a digital download for all devices on this long-deleted limited edition Record Store Day pressing of 500 copies ONLY!!
