Description

An original Mono 1st press of Pepper on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 1/1. Ok, so lets start with a history lesson. After the aborted wide spine version, and in preparation for the full retail release in June, the record company produced a 1st batch of the thin spine prototype. These copies can be identified by coding on the internal flipback and mention of 'fourth proof'. They are essentially the 1st batch of the retail release of Sgt Pepper. The vinyl is super solid and comes housed in the gatefold cover. We have a patent pending inner from '67..but no cutouts.
Vinyl (Vg+) In great condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks per side - nothing heavy or nasty looking.. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Tracks play really nice - when it is on song. ..Expect a bit of light background in one of the fussier lowkey number perside. Nothing upfront or annoying. A couple of ticks in one spot per side. Some very nice deep grooved mono throughout.
Cover (Vg-) Clean and flat front with creasing over on the right side. The rear looks sweet too - no major problem at all. The interior remains in very fine condition. The issue dragging the grading down, as you can probably tell, is the spine. That can best be desribed as in poor condition. Lots of wear. Not much text legible at all. Basically. Do NOT expect anything from the spine! If you are purchasing this item you can see the surfaces are in pretty good order - and you understand the significance and value of a Fourth Proof. Thats where the value is. Its Pepper its from the 1st .
