Description
This is a nice second state butcher cover - one of the most desired of Beatle collectables.
The cover the Beatles first intended to use showed them in butcher smocks with doll parts strewn around them. The record execs decided it would offend people so they chose to withdraw the cover and use the blander trunk cover, but instead of trashing the ones that had already been printed they pasted the new cover over the old one.
A first state cover is almost impossible to find; as I write one is on ebay with bids of more than $20,000.00.
Second state is one that has been pasted over, and third state is when the pasted over cover has been removed. Many collectors prefer the second state to the third since itis closer to the state of the record when it was first sold.
This copy is in nice shape - not mint, but better than most I've seen. There is some, but not too much, ring wear on the cover, back and front, and the spine shows wear, though it is still intact. The black shirt Ringo wore beneath his white smock is clearly visible through the white paste over.
The record is monoraul, and is in even better shape than the cover - still shiny and undamaged.
This is a fine example of one of record collcting's legendary rarities. Any Beatle collector will love you forever if you make a gift of it.
