DANTALIAN’S CHARIOT – Chariot Rising. Wah Wah Records LPS 113. Spanish (Catalonia) release. FACTORY SEALED VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally recorded in 1967. First issued in 1995 on Tenth Planet. This edition issued in 2013. All tracks are mono. Comes in an old style (late 60s/early 70s) UK jacket with the flaps glued to the outside and includes a liner note insert with photos. The band photo on the front cover is the same used for the picture sleeve of the French release of their single, also issued in 1967. MEMBERS:  Zoot Money (keyboards, vocals), Andy Somers (Summers) (guitar), Colin Allen (drums), and Pat Donaldson (bass). TRACKS:  Madman Running Through The Fields (single A-side, 1967), Sun Came Bursting Through My Cloud (single B-side, 1967), Fourpenny Bus Ride, Coffee Song, Soma (Pts. 1 & 2), World War Three, Recapture The Thrill, Four Firemen, High Flying Bird, and This Island. DESCRIPTION:  Zoot Money's Big Roll Band was one of the biggest live acts in Swingin' London. They where among the top stage bands playing their mixture of mod jazz/soul/R&B in the most popular clubs and released a bunch of excellent 45's and two fantastic LPs. But by 1967 a new breeze was blowing and bringing winds of change to the music scene. Bands like The Pink Floyd, Tomorrow, and The Soft Machine had ignited a revolution in sound, and Money saw it was the time for a new move. Along with guitarist Andy Somers (a.k.a. Summers, later of The Police) and drummer Collin Allen from the Big Roll Band, plus bassist Pat Donaldson, he formed Dantalian's Chariot and hit London's psychedelic underground clubs with a new sound and looks (the band dressed in white and painted their instruments and amps also white, so they'd give an impressive image when a psychedelic light show was projected upon them while in stage). They recorded one of the best singles of the era: Madman Running Through The Fields, which was coupled with Sun Came Bursting Through My Cloud and became their only release back in 1967. However, as the legend of the band grew, rumors of existing recordings made in 1967 for an unreleased album spread among collectors. Though there was no intended album in the can, enough material had been demo’d to fill an album. Thanks to the diligent efforts of David Wells and his UK label, Tenth Planet, these tracks plus both sides of their single saw the light of day; issued as Chariot Rising in LP format in 1995, its brother label Wooden Hill put out the CD version one year later with the addition of the track This Island. This LP edition contains all the tracks from the Wooden Hill CD release. When Dantalian's Chariot split in April of 1968 its members would go on to other important bands such as Eric Burdon and The Animals, The Soft Machine, Kevin Ayers, Stone The Crows, Focus, and John Mayall's band. Andy Somers, of course, who would alter the spelling of his surname to Summers, later went on to international fame when he joined forces with Sting and former Curved Air drummer Stewart Copeland to form The Police.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

RETURN POLICY:

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

INTERNATIONAL Customers:  Please wait at least 3 weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. If security is your concern please have your package registered (see above for fee). I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal systems it is beyond my control. With first class mail international my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery (especially to Italy), though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.
