This handsome LP from Westminster (WST 17098, US pressing, black label, stereo) features André Gertler in masterly performances of Bartok’s Violin Sonatas No. 1 in C-sharp minor Sz75 and No. 2 in C Major Sz76, both made with the splendid pianist Edith Farnadi. Both musicians knew Bartok and bring a special authority to these remarkable scores.
Both works were set down in the warm acoustics of the Mozart-Saal, Konzerthaus, Vienna – the former in October 1958, and the latter in March 1959.
Incidentally, the lovely cover design was executed by Jules Maidoff. There are superlative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only, by A. Bunzl.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the front laminated jacket is VERY GOOD+. The only real flaws concern a 1" split to the top edge, as well as minor bumping at corners. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
