If you are in a hurry, here is a quick summary: All original components are in fantastic condition.
If you have more time, a detailed description follows, where you'll find my honest appraisal of every item but please bear in mind that this was a very poorly designed cardboard product and it is miraculous that it has survived at all, let alone in this wonderful condition. I offer original Beatles U.K. pressings, now between fifty and sixty years old, in excellent, collectible condition but they have been played and therefore, will never be mint. THE OUTER BOX:
Great condition for this easily damaged item which has to hold the contents including the heavy book. Often found with tears to the open edges or corners, this one is fully intact. There are general signs of handling and shelf wear but overall, it would be difficult to find a better original.
THE SLIP TRAY:
Wonderful condition with just a few mild creases on the fragile flaps. There is some rubbing on the folded outer edges, which is unavoidable. The photos show how good it is.
THE BOOK TRAY:
Without doubt, this is the hardest component to find in excellent condition (or even find at all). You can see from the photos that this genuine original is as close to perfect as is realistically possible. It stands firm, shows only minor signs of handling and although there are stress lines on the top corners, the bottom two are perfect. The photo of the underside reveals that all four corner where they meet the book, are completely intact. If you have ever tried to find a box set with a tray this good, you will know how difficult that is.
THE GET BACK BOOK:
As you would expect from a set that has been carefully handled, the book is in top condition. There are no loose pages and apart from a little laminate separation along the spine edge of the back panel, it is near perfect. This copy has the printed credits page which is the correct publication, as it was intended.
THE RED APPLE L.P. COVER:
A lovely example with perfectly square corners and just a few tiny spine edge wrinkles. The ultra thin spine is perfect and all the text is immaculate. There is a mild disc impression which has caused slight rubbing to the glossy laminate.
THE INNER L.P. SLEEVE:
Correct 'patented' plain white, company issue which is in perfect condition.
THE 2U/2U L.P.:
In superb condition with deep gloss vinyl surfaces, showing the faintest of wispy handling lines. Audio is sublime. There is a needle mark which causes four rotational clicks on the song 'Get Back'. I have played it on two different decks and it plays through just fine.
THE APPLE POSTER: (Replica)
Never included as part of the original Box Set set, although some do turn up with one that would have been given away free by the retailer at the time of purchase, to promote other Apple label L.P.'s. This one is a replica copy in mint condition.
