If you are looking at this listing then you probably know what this album is all about. As most of you know, Yes's 'Close To The Edge' represents one of the high points of progressive rock music. Released in the fall of 1972 on Atlantic records, (SD 7244) it swept many of their loyal fans off their feet....even they were not prepared for such stunning lyrical, musical, and artistic beauty.
There have been countless pressings of this album; some good ...some bad...some very bad. The one offered in this listing is not only one of the best pressings I've ever heard, but also one of the hardest to find in decent playing condition. This one has hardly seen a turntable; which is hard to believe as it is a DJ White Label Promo copy....(I guess the DJ wasn't too fond of the band's music :)
Gatefold Jacket: Near Mint(-) .....in exceptional condition considering where it's been and how old it is. Some inoffensive wear to the (wide) spine and a couple of the corners but other than that, it is truly in wonderful condition. The front and back are fully textured (see photos) with an almost "leather-like" feel when you run your fingers over it. The inner-gatefold is in a near perfect state and easily demonstrates Roger Dean's incredible artwork. Orange "day-glow" Promo sticker on front cover. Zoom in on the photos for better detail.
Original Lyric/Inner-Sleeve: Excellent(-) .....lovely emerald-green and almost perfect with just a small cut to one side.
Record: Near Mint(-).....The white promo labels look nearly flawless as does the surface of the rigid vinyl. Apart from some wispy lines and some signs of sleeve removal, there is practically nothing else to see. All other marks are directly related to the pressing itself and totally superficial; which means they have no bearing on the audio during playback. Upon playback I heard no groove wear or distortion.....and apart from some sporadic dust ticks during the quietest segments, the audio is in one word: TREMENDOUS. During the title song when the bass and lead guitar finally kick in at the start; you'll feel as though your eyes have just popped out of your skull. Incredible mastering on this pressing.
