Description

An original and  very earliest 1st press of LAYLA on UK Polydor from 1970. Matrix A1/B2-A1/B2 [1st cut]. Earliest copies come with flat labels [not-ridged]. But you can sometimes find the very 1st earliest copies with a different publishing for 'Have You Ever Love A Women'. I don't know the story behind it but the very earliest copies went out with 'Peter Maurice' - instead of 'Lark Music' - as you find on ALL other copies. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MacNeill gatefold cover. 
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In great condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side. One is semi-feelable and does just sound in 'THORNTREE'. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. A neat player but not perfectly clean in all areas. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. 'I Am Yours' plays really relatively clean. 'Thorn Tree' plays with clean background - BUT as mentioned above there's a small mark which causes 10 ticks toward the end of the track. Not particularly loud - but because the track is sooo low-key they are noticeable. A couple of minor ticks during 'Tell The Truth' & 'See You Smile'. But other than that the Lp plays back marvellous.
Cover (Ex-) Lovely clean and flat front with no imperfections. The rear seems to have avoided nearly all the typical wear on the rear - which is unusual. The interior is superb - no issues at all. Just a bit of light edge wear in places and the openings are still sharp. The spine is in excellent order with minimal wear. All text fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very fine specimen.
